Members of the Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Association (TNGDA) staged a demonstration inside the Government Rajaji Hospital campus as they stated that the Tamil Nadu government was yet to respond to their long-pending demand regarding compression of time-bound promotion here on Tuesday.

They raised slogans seeking pay as declared by the Centre for practitioners.

State President, TNGDA, K. Senthil, said that despite several rounds of discussions with the State government, it had not concretely agreed to accept the demand of medical professionals.

“Doctors will be eligible for time bound promotions during the 8th, 15th, 17th and 20th year. We have been seeking its reduction to 4, 9 and 13,” he said.

Members from other districts in southern Tamil Nadu took part in a general body meeting to discuss the logistics of the protest. Dr. Senthil said that doctors across the State will be focusing on patient-care only from October 24 but will not conduct any class at the medical college.

“On October 29, all doctors will be performing double duty from 7.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to ensure that all surgeries can be completed in advance. On October 30 and 31, we will only attend to emergency cases,” he added.
