One domestic help held; property recovered

The city police solved the murder for gain case in which a 69-year-old woman was found dead at her residence on July 25.

The arrest of Malarkodi (28), wife of Kannan of Kariapatti, led to the recovery of the jewels, including a gold chain, ear stud and nose stud, which were missing from the house of Lakshmidevi.

A police officer said that Malarkodi, a domestic help, was known to Lakshmidevi’s sister for long. Since Lakshmidevi, who was alone, she had sought Malarkodi’s assistance. Another officer said that the elderly woman was lending money to some vendors and auto drivers in the vicinity. Though Lakshmidevi had seven children, she lived alone on Pattukottai Kalyana Sundaranar Street, off by-pass road. As the mobile phone and the jewels of Lakshmidevi were missing, the leads came in from the inputs gathered from neighbours who had identified Malarkodi. “We are on the look out for two more persons, who are suspected to have accompanied Malarkodi,” the officer said. Inspector General and Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav commended the team.
