A petition filed before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has sought a direction to the Election Commission of India to either cancel or postpone the Tirupparankundram byelection, which is scheduled to be held on May 19. The petitioner, K. K. Ramesh from Madurai, alleged that political parties were distributing cash to voters. The practice of cash-for-votes had to be stopped, he said in the petition.
