The railway parcel office functioning near the main entrance of Madurai Railway junction would be shifted to a spacious area along the northern end of the platform one on Monday.

The shifting will ensure free movement of passengers on the platform and their vehicles in the main entrance, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Hoshiar Chand said.

The parcel office has been functioning in a cramped office in the middle of the platform one causing a lot of inconvenience for the passengers and for those coming to book parcels. All vehicles coming to book parcels and take delivery of goods would enter the station premises through the new entrance near the Goods Shed Street, he added.

Separate counters for booking parcels and taking delivery of goods would be set up. The new air-conditioned paid waiting hall in the northern side of Platform one would also be thrown open for the passengers on Monday.

All passengers with valid tickets to enter the platform would have to pay Rs. 10 for an hour to make use of the facility. Each passenger would be allowed for a maximum time of 12 hours only, he added. The paid waiting hall has been provided with modern cushioned furniture and television set. An upper class waiting hall would also be put to use on Monday.
