Rotary Club and the Dravidian movement were both about 100 years old and had been championing for equal rights, said PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan, MLA, here on Saturday.
He was addressing an orientation programme as part of the Non-Rotarians’ meet held here on Sunday. Echoing similar opinions, Dr. V. Ravindranath, an ex-Rotary District Governor, said that the club’s primary aim was to foster friendship that resulted in peacekeeping. He stated that the club admitted members who were representatives of the society, irrespective of their caste, creed, colour and language.
He also explained of the organisation’s contribution to eradicating diseases such as polio in India. “Three million people are now polio-free thanks to Rotary. We are also urging members to register as organ donors and give blood at blood banks,” he said.

Other members such as Chamundi Bose, a lawyer and a long-time Rotarian, said that her unit was focusing on female sanitary health in schools.
The participants cleared their doubts on functions of the club and the contributions from their end. They also pledged to participate in future activities held by the organisation.
