One person was killed and 35 others were injured when a crowded van carrying a marriage party dashed against a private college bus near Sankarankovil on Monday.
Police said over 30 persons from Meenthulli near Sankarankovil were going to attend a marriage held at Sankarankovil. Even as they were crossing Malaiyankulam, the van dashed against the bus killing on the spot D. Duraisamy (32) of Annapoornapuram near Meenthulli and injuring 30 others in the van.
Five college students, who were travelling in the bus, were also injured in the mishap.

As eight victims had sustained fractures, they were referred to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital while all others were treated at Sankarankovil Government Hospital. Six of them have been admitted to the Sankarankovil Government Hospital.
Sankarankovil police have registered a case.
