Ten old students of St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai, who were enriched with impeccable knowledge by the 138-year-old institution of Society of Jesus priests between 1971 and 1977, have taken a small but significant step to take their Alma Mater towards tapping the green energy by donating a solar power plant.

When the solar power panels were blessed on Wednesday by Rev. Fr. Henry Jerome SJ, Rector, St. Xavier’s Educational Institutions, Palayamkottai, to mark the formal commissioning, the proud sponsors – Chidambaram, Shanthaseelan, Thangaraj, Varadharaja Perumal, Janagarajan and Maria Selvarayan, who graced the occasion - could not control their happiness as they had given ₹ 7.50-lakhworth gift to their ‘Mother’ who grew them so meticulously through a range of carefully designed exercises to face the challenges in their professional and personal life.

“The solar power panels will generate 7.50 KW electricity, which will be of great use to our school, advantageously situated in a sunny area like Palayamkottai,” the sponsor students said.

Moreover, the old students also sponsored a reverse osmosis drinking water plant, having the capacity of producing 1,000 litre mineral water per hour, to the school.
