Many residents in villages coming under Chellampatti and Usilampatti panchayat unions claimed that there was no drinking water to them.
For the last one month, they had managed with water supplied hardly for a few days, the womenfolk told the officials.
Meanwhile, Collector L. Subramanian, who inspected the digging of borewells in many water-starved locations, assured the villagers at Karisalpatti, Poosaripatti, Karumathur and among others of supply of drinking water regularly.

He briefed the people on the water situation and sought their cooperation in judicious use of water.
The continuous failure of monsoons had resulted in fall in the Vaigai dam storage level, the main source of drinking water needs for the district. The State government, under the drought relief programme, had dug borewells on a war footing in 500 locations for which works had started as early as January. After the water was pumped to overhead tanks in the vicinity, it was transported to the hamlets through tankers, he added.
Accompanied by Corporation Commissioner Kathiravan and other senior officials, Mr. Subramanian reviewed the water availability in each of the borewells dug recently by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board engineers.
