Notorious robber held in Madurai

A habitual offender identified as Sekar (46), son of Manuel Nadar, of Sellur 60-feet road was arrested on charges of theft .

Following complaints of theft, Inspector General and Commissioner of Police Sanjay Mathur had formed special teams. Jaihindpuram station (crime) Inspector V. Netaji said that the accused was in the habit of breaking into locked homes. After decamping with the valuables, he would sell them through his contacts. Based on his confession, the police recovered a little over 19 sovereigns. The accused had committed 24 crimes in Vilakuthoon, Teppakulam, South Gate and Jaihindpuram police station limits in Madurai City and Tirunagar, Oomachikulam stations in Madurai district. The police produced him before a Judicial Magistrate court, which remanded him to judicial custody. A senior police officer said that Sekar, figured in as many as 12 offences in Oomachikulam area alone and another six incidents in Tirunagar.

Policeman rewarded

Mr. Sanjay Mathur rewarded a policeman Saravanan, attached to Police Temporary School. On December 31, when a woman, Shanthi was returning home with her son Gnaneswaran of Krishnapuram Colony, two youths snatched her two sovereign gold chain. Saravanan, who was riding his two-wheeler noticed this and chased the robbers. After nabbing them with the support of some public, he handed them to Sellur Police Station officers. Interrogations revealed that Manikandan alias Left Mani of Nagupillai Thope, Keerathurai and his accomplice Murugan (38) of Golden Apartments, Vilangudi had committed similar acts.
