Processions in two-wheelers or auto rickshaws will not be permitted in the city during the Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar jayanthi celebration on October 30, the Police Commissioner, P. Kannappan, told a meeting here on Saturday. The meeting was held with representatives of different factions of All India Forward Bloc and Mukkulathor organisations to discuss steps to be taken to ensure smooth flow of traffic and prevent untoward incidents on October 30 when a large number of people gather here to celebrate the birth anniversary of Muthuramalinga Thevar.

The participants were informed that police escort would be provided for convoys of vehicles proceeding to Pasumpon village in Ramanathapuram district from here, provided prior permission was obtained from the respective police stations. The organisers should submit an application with the details of the number of vehicles to be used. The vehicles carrying participants should only follow the escort vehicle and should not go on their own. They would be checked at two check posts on the way. Convoys would be permitted as per scheduled timings.

The Commissioner said that processions of two-wheelers or auto rickshaws would not be permitted on the occasion but traditional rallies of milk pots and sprouts would be allowed with prior permission. He cautioned that cultural shows and hoardings should not hurt the feelings of others.
