No IMFL outlets near places of worship, schools: Collector

Assuring the public that the district administration would not permit opening of TASMAC outlets near places of worship or near schools, Collector Anshul Mishra has instructed TASMAC authorities to ensure that it was complied with.

Presiding over the monthly law and order review meeting in which Superintendent of Police V. Balakrishnan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Madurai City) R. Thirunavukkarasu, Deputy Commissioner (Madurai Corporation) Sambavi among other officers participated, he said that the TASMAC managers shall allow opening of liquor outlets in places where they would not be of nuisance to public.

Following public representation that a TASMAC outlet was to be opened in Pandia Vellalar Street, he urged the authorities to immediately look into it and find alternative places as early as possible. Similarly, the manner in which some people in Avaniapuram Pamban Swami Nagar were polluting the locality by burning waste and garbage dumped in huge bins came up for discussion.

The entire pocket was choked with fumes as some people committed the offence in a bid to take away scrap materials.

Mr. Mishra wanted it to be stopped immediately and directed the Corporation authorities to ensure the environment was not polluted. There were complaints that defacing walls and pasting posters was rampant. The police could take cognisance of the offence and act accordingly, he said.

Similarly, installing statues without prior permission would be viewed seriously. There were couple of such attempts in the district, and the officials had been told to be vigilant, he said.
