No bus services to village for three years

Stating that TNSTC had stopped operating bus services to their village three years ago, citing bad roads, residents of Kumariyendal village on Monday petitioned Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao asking him to direct the contractor to speed up the ongoing road works.

Village leader S. Ganapathy, who led the residents to the Collectorate here, said TNSTC had been operating three bus services to the village from Aranmanai — one via Thoruvalur and two via Perungalur. After they presented repeated petitions, the district administration sanctioned two roads to the village — one from Perungalur Vilakku covering three km and the other from Karendal also covering three km — under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana at a cost of ₹3.65 crore.

However, the contractor, who should have completed the project by December 25 last, had not completed even 30% of the works, he alleged.

Even where the work had been, the roads remained ‘kutcha’ with blue metal strewn all over. The residents had so far presented 18 petitions to authorities to direct the contractor to complete the roads at the earliest but of no avail, he said.

TNSTC, after repeated representations, restored one bus service via Thoruvalur (Route No 3) but declined to restore services via Perungalur (Route No 2A and 13), he added.

The residents urged the Collector to direct the contract company to complete the work and TNSTC to restore the bus services.
