The new-look passport with Letter Screen Image (LSI), a new feature to ensure additional security, was launched by District Collector Anshul Mishra at the Regional Passport Office here on Friday.

The Union Ministry of External Affairs recently introduced the LSI facility, making the remodelled passport tamper-proof.

The first, second and last two pages of the new version will be laminated. The applicant’s photograph will appear on the second page of the passport, while other information such as the address, which used to appear on the last page, will now feature on page 35. The signature and seal of the issuing authority will be on the first page.

A seven-digit number will figure on the document. Henceforth, newly issued passports will carry these features, Regional Passport Officer S.Maniswara Raja said in a press release.

The Madurai Region covers Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts. There are two Passport Seva Kendras in the region – at Madurai and Tirunelveli.
