Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena.

It was a litmus test for the newly-appointed Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena on the very first day of his assuming office here on Friday as he had the task of nipping in bud any sort of communal clash in the aftermath of the murder of a 16-year-old dalit boy in Paramakudi.

Soon after he checked-in in his room at the guest house here on arrival from Chennai, special branch police personnel briefed him about the murder in the communally-sensitive Paramakudi, and put him virtually on his toes.

He rushed to the nearby police headquarters and after taking charge from outgoing SP N. Manivannan, rushed to Paramakudi to take control of the situation.

At the end of the day, the SP heaved a huge sigh of relief as the family members and supporters of the deceased, after a brief protest, accepted the body in the evening and dispersed.

After handing over charge, Mr. Manivannan too camped in Paramakudi along with DIG of Police Kapil Saratkar, the whole day as Inspector General of Police (south zone) S. Murugan did not want to take any chance, considering the sensitivity of the matter.

ASP S. Sarvesh Raj assisted the new SP in maintaining law and order.
