New Commissioner of Police Mahender Kumar Rathod has promised to put an end to the traffic rule violations and rash driving that pose serious threat to the law-abiding road users of Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai.
“Since the roads are so narrow here, rash driving and traffic rule violations need to be checked strictly,” Dr. Mahender told reporters after assuming office here on Monday evening.

He said law and order situation was excellent, thanks to the efforts of the officers served in the past and assured that he would try his level best to improve the situation further.
On the sporadic incidents of illicit sand mining along the Tamirabharani water course, Dr. Mahender, a 2001 Batch IPS officer from Andhra Pradesh, said the police would chalk out a plan after discussing the issue with revenue officials.
The Commissioner of Police said perfect security arrangements would be in place for the Aani car festival of Sri Nellaiyapar Temple.
