New councillors take oath

The two new councillors of Madurai Corporation who were elected in the recent by-polls, representing the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), took oath at the Corporation building here on Wednesday.

While Latha Kumar was elected unopposed as councillor of Ward 85 (Jadamunikoil Street), K. Shanmugam won the by-poll in Ward 4 (S. Alangulam).

The results were announced on Monday.

Both the councillors were administered oath of office in the presence of Cooperation Minister Sellur K. Raju, Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa, Corporation Commissioner C. Kathiravan, Madurai MP R. Gopalakrishnan and Deputy Mayor K. Thiraviam.

The by-elections for local bodies were held on September 18.
