NEP is against the very idea of social justice: Kanimozhi

National Education Policy was an indirect way of imposing Hindutva ideals and the Bharatiya Janata Party government had taken up education as a tool to spread RSS ideologies, said Thoothukudi MP M.K. Kanimozhi.

Addressing a public meeting here on Saturday, she said, “the draft of the NEP is against the very idea of social justice. The policy has recommended filtration exams for students in classes III, V and VIII, which bars basic right to education.” “At many places, the draft repeatedly stresses the point of educating ‘Indian tradition and culture’ to students. Indian culture is not homogenous but diverse and how can a single culture be taught to students of the entire country,” questioned Ms. Kanimozhi. “By this, the government is only trying to impose Hindutva culture on the younger generation of the country.”

“The DMK has formed a committee to discuss and prepare an opinion report on the NEP, which will be given to the Central government. All the Tamil Nadu MPs will fight to stop the policy from taking shape and being implemented in the State. As people representatives in the Modi regime, we can’t afford to doze off even for a second,” the DMK MP said.

The government was bringing in secretive and novel methods to impose Hindi and Hindutva in every sphere. “The times are tough and we have to be extremely vigilant to raise our voice and fight against the government’s moves like the NEP,” she said.
