C. Muthiah, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Narimedu, is one among the two principals of 1100 KVs spread across the country to be chosen for the National Award to Teachers 2014. The award is to be presented to him in New Delhi on September 5, Teacher's Day, by the President.
The award comes as a recognition of 23 years of dedicated service in education, on most occasions in difficult terrain.
Mr. Muthiah, son of daily wage earners of Enathikottai near Manamadurai in Sivaganga district, is a first generation graduate.

He studied B. Com. in Madura College here, followed by M. Com. in Alagappa Government College and MBA in Alagappa Institute of Management, Karaikudi, and B. Ed. in Madurai Kamaraj University.
His teaching career started with a Navodaya school in Karnataka in 1991. From there, he has been going places – to Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
When he sought a transfer to be close to his family, which was living in Tamil Nadu, he was shifted to the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan.

His first posting in KV was in Assam and was later transferred to Mizoram. Here, he was involved in starting a KV on the border with Bangladesh. After spending three years in Mizoram, Mr. Muthiah was sent to KV, Tiruchi, and then to KV, Central Electrochemical Research Institute, Karaikudi.
He has been working in the Madurai KV for the past five years.
Mr. Muthiah is happy and satisfied with the service he has rendered in school education. “I studied in Tamil medium till twelfth standard and completed my degree course fully on government scholarship. I am happy that I have been able to serve as a teacher in various areas over two decades to the satisfaction of both students and teachers,” he says.
