MKU inks MoU withUS-based institutions

Madurai Kamaraj University on Tuesday has signed memorandum of understanding with US-based institutions to facilitate collaborative research and faculty exchange.

According to a statement issued by the university here on Thursday, the first MoU was signed with Extreme ProTech, a company formed based on the research output from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in the US.

This MoU will facilitate exchange of knowledge and technologies in the fields of extremozymes, biopolymers and biofuel production based on micro-organisms.

The university has also signed another MoU directly with SDSMT, which involved a four-point programme involving staff exchange, facilitating visits of students and faculty between the institutions, joint conduct of workshops, research and publications, and creating a programme for student exchange

Citing Rajesh Sani, Chief Scientific Officer of Extreme ProTech, the statement said that he was looking forward to collaborating with P. Varalakshmi and B. Ashok Kumar, both Assistant Professors with the School of Biotechnology in MKU, working in similar research areas.

In his statement, P.P Chellathurai, Vice-Chancellor, said that he was looking forward to more such collaborations with institutions across the world this year and the university would strive to promote research that would directly benefit the society.

The MoUs were signed by Mr. Chellathurai and Registrar V. Chinniah.
