The merger resulted in mixed reaction in Virudhunagar district, with a section of the ruling party men celebrating in Aruppukottai and another section burning the effigy of party leader, O. Pannerselvam.

Scores of AIADMK men, led by Mr. Pannerselvam supporter, Ismail, burst crackers and distributed sweets at Aruppukottai bus stand. However, the former Minister, R. Inbathamilan, a supporter of the party’s sidelined deputy general secretary, T.T.V. Dhinakaran, burnt the effigy of Mr. Pannerselvam at Srivilliputtur.
