Meenakshipuram VAO held for taking bribe

A village administrative officer, S. Sivakumar, was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.3,000 here on Wednesday.

The VAO of Meenakshipuram had demanded money from one S. Sevugan who had applied for name transfer of patta for a land he had bought in 2012. Based on a complaint by Mr.Sevugan, DVAC DSP K. Esakkianandan laid a trap at the VAO office in Mangulam, where Sivakumar holds additional charge, and arrested him.

Two houses burgled

Two houses were burgled in Tirunagar when the residents had left their houses locked during Deepavali.

Police said K. Muthukumar of Vivekanandar 4 Cross Street had been to his native place in Villupuram district on November 1. When he returned home on Tuesday, he found the iron gate of the compound wall, the grille gate and the wooden entrance door broken open. The burglars had taken away a camera, two laptops and a two-wheeler from the house.

In the second incident, the house of Srinivasan at Nilayur Kaithari Nagar was burgled when the family members had gone to their TVS Nagar residence to celebrate Deepavali. Nearly three sovereigns of gold and six silk sarees were stolen from the house.

The Tirunagar police are investigating.
