Man abducted and released; four arrested

Four men were arrested on charges of abducting K. Murthy alias Krishnamurthy (46) of Srivilliputhur for cash.

Cash to the tune of Rs. 58, 000 was recovered and a car in which they travelled was seized.

According to Masarpatti police, the gangsters took him forcibly into a car in which they travelled from Virudhunagar.

The incident was reported on Tuesday evening.

Krishnamurthy was reportedly in possession of Rs. 68, 000.

While he was waiting near the Government Hospital in Virudhunagar, the gang took him into the car and moved towards Vembur, where he was dropped after seizing the cash from him.

Vembur is located on the outskirts of Tuticorin.

As soon as Krishnamurthy was dropped, he lodged a complaint with Masarpatti police on the incident.

Based on the complainant's information, a team led by P. Alagudurai, Inspector of Police, Masarpatti, conducted intensive vehicle checks.

The vehicle, in which the gangsters travelled, was intercepted near Melakaranthai junction on Tuesday night.

The arrested were Selvakumar alias Munisamy (40) of Sattur, S. Manimurugan (32) of Kariapatti, B. Pandi (23) of Kariapatti and D. Mahesh (32) also of the same locality.

Three absconding

Three other accomplices behind the incident were reportedly absconding.

Further investigation is underway.
