Madurai’s Government Rajaji Hospital to provide quality food at affordable price: Palanivel Thiaga Rajan

The canteen will be run by actor Soori who also has a chain of restaurants in the city

Finance Minister P T R Palanivel Thiaga Rajan inaugurated the renovated canteen on Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) premises here on Friday.

Speaking to reporters on the occasion, he said over the last 10 years, the food items served here were highly-priced and the quality was substandard.

However, after the DMK came to power, the canteen operations had been entrusted with a reputed firm which had promised to provide quality food items at affordable prices. The process in awarding the contract was transparent, said Mr. Thiaga Rajan.

The canteen would be run by actor Soori, who has a chain of units in the city.

People coming to the GRH might come with pain and sometimes were filled with anxiety. In such circumstances, it would not be fair to tax them by charging exorbitant rates for the food items served here, the Minister pointed out. He also reiterated that the government was for the economically weaker sections.

GRH Dean Rathinavel, Mayor Indrani Pon Vasanth, Deputy Mayor Nagarajan, MLA Boominathan and senior doctors participated in the inaugural function.

Some of the inpatients’ attendants visited the canteen and expressed satisfaction over the prices and the quality of food served.
