Madurai Corporation Commissioner inspects Uthangudi area

A team of officials from the Madurai Corporation carried out an inspection at Aaramudhan Street in Uthangudi here on Wednesday.

The officials led by Corporation Commissioner C. Kathiravan, inspected an empty plot of land where sewage from the houses in the area was draining into.

The Hindu on Wednesday (May 28) on the woes and problems faced by the residents due to the stagnant sewage.

Residents affected

Sewage from all the houses in the area was draining into an empty plot of land which had resulted in the residents being affected by the mosquitoes and insects breeding there. They had also complained of the stench, which got unbearable during rains.

Corporation Commissioner Kathiravan had a look at the maps of the newly-added areas such as Uthangudi and asked for provisions to be made to drain the sewage from the area into the nearby sewage channel.

“Steps will be taken to clean the empty land and ensure sewage does not stagnate there. Notices will also be issued to the persons who have let their pigs loiter here,” Mr. Kathiravan said.

A proposal has also been made by the corporation to carry out road laying works in the Uthangudi-Pandikovil stretch.
