Minister for Cooperation Sellur K. Raju said that the transfer of S. Nagarajan from the post of Madurai Collector was not politically motivated.
Mr. Nagarajan was transferred to the post of Director of Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute on Tuesday immediately after he discretely cleared appointment of 1,500 anganwadi workers to various centres across the district.
Addressing the press here on Wednesday, the Minister said, “Transfer of officials was common when the DMK was in power. However, we (the AIADMK government) do not unnecessarily interfere in the works or transfer of officials. The former Collector is a highly experienced officer. He was posted here during the elections,” he said.

He also said that the combined AIADMK leadership of Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam did not have any major differences of opinion in policy decisions. They were imaginations of the media, he added.
The Minister inspected cleaning a 900-metre stretch of Chintamani channel at Bethaniapuram (Ward 21). Mr. Raju, who is the MLA of Madurai West constituency, commissioned the cleaning work with ₹ 3 lakh allotted from his Member of Legislative Assembly Constituency Development Scheme.
Addressing the press on the occasion, he said that he was attempting to create awareness of making Madurai cleaner. “Since Madurai figures in the Smart Cities Mission, the Corporation will be plying 500 battery-operated vehicles to ensure door-to-door collection of waste. There will be a reduction in the number of garbage bins across all wards,” he said.
