A group of cinema-goers thronged the Collectorate on Friday, complaining of exorbitant rates demanded by some theatres that are screening actor Vijay starrer ‘Jilla.’ They claimed the theatres demanded up to Rs.300 for a single ticket.
S. Utharapandian of Alanganallur said a theatre refused to accept advance bookings for the movie that got released on Friday. Hence, he went there by 9 a.m. and was shocked to find the tickets being sold for Rs. 300 in the presence of the police. Another movie goer, R. Saravanan of Bethaniapuram, said in another theatre the tickets were sold at Rs. 100 to Rs.300. They refused to issue Rs. 10-tickets.
At the Collectorate, Sub-Inspector of Police P. Anbalagan told the youngsters that the cinema hall owners were exploiting their eagerness to watch movies on the day of the release. “Can’t you wait for some more days,” he asked them. Sub-Inspector P. Muniyandi asked the youth to take care of their parents rather than spending time, money and energy on buying tickets to watch movies of their favourite stars.
