Lawyers stage demo on IIT-M issue

A group of advocates staged a demonstration in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue inside the Madras High Court Bench campus here on Tuesday condemning IIT-Madras management for having derecognised Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle.

Senior Counsel M. Ajmal Khan too participated in the demonstration by strapping his mouth with a black cloth and condemned any kind of attempt to curb free speech and expression which had been declared as a fundamental right under the Constitution.

Advocates P. Rathinam, T. Lajapathi Roy, M. Thirunavukkarasu, A.K. Manickam, S.M.A. Jinnah, Shaji Chellan, S. Vanchinathan, Robert Chandrakumar and many others participated in the protest and raised slogans demanding revocation of the ban on the students’ body.
