DINDIGUL

A group of lawyers laid a siege to the All Women Police station here after an Inspector of Police reportedly assaulted an advocate, on Monday evening.

The Dindigul AWPS Inspector Vasanthi had summoned a couple Manoj and Sathya, who had a registered love marriage recently, to investigate a complaint by Manoj's mother that Sathya was being forcefully kept at her parent's house despite the marriage.

An advocate Thiyagu intervened on behalf of Sathya's father and an argument broke out between the inspector and the advocate, in which they both allegedly abused each other, which soon turned into a quarrel. The advocate allegedly slapped the inspector and she, in turn, attacked him with a lathi in which he was injured.

Following this, around 50 lawyers gathered outside the AWPS and blocked the Dindigul to Tiruchi Road, demanding that Thiyagu be sent to the Government Hospital for treatment. Traffic was affected for half an hour. The injured advocate was kept in the Dindigul North Police station briefly after which he was sent to the GH.

The lawyers laid siege to the Dindigul North Police Station, demanding that a case be filed against the inspector. Dindigul SP R. Sakthivel rushed to the spot.
