DMK president M.K. Stalin on Wednesday flayed the AIADMK government for lack of planning that had led to acute drinking water shortage across the State.
Speaking at Valayankulam in Tirupparankundram Assembly constituency, which is going for by-election on May 18, Mr. Stalin said that not only people in Tirupparankundram but also those in Ottapidaram, Sulur, Aravakurichi and Chennai were complaining of water shortage.
“This government has not planned to mitigate the drinking water problem. It is not at all bothered about the crisis,” he said. If the local body election had been conducted, such problems of basic amenities could have been solved.”

Recalling the Pollachi sexual abuse case, he said more than 200 young women were sexually assaulted by people who were close to the ruling party. “What was the State Intelligence wing doing when the crime was going on for seven long years? If they were not able to prevent it, what action has been taken after the crime took place,” he asked. Not only were women sexually abused, but they were also photographed and videographed.
“The victims were threatened with dire consequences if they lodged police complaint. There is no safety for women in the State,” Mr. Stalin said.
The people of Tirupparankundram Assembly segment, which is part of Virudhunagar Lok Sabha constituency, had already voted to remove the Modi government at the Centre. Similarly, they should vote for throwing out the AIADMK government in the State, he added.

He said that a major irregularity happened while getting the thumb impression of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the nomination forms for the AIADMK candidate in the previous by-election. “We have a doubt whether she was alive when the thumb impression was taken,” he said.
He sought votes for party candidate P. Saravanan.
