Kargil victory remembered

The infantry division of the NCC Army wing in Thiagarajar College celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas on the college premises here on Sunday

NCC cadets and volunteers of Indian Red Cross Society participated in it. Through a skit, the cadets underscored the need to uphold the spirit of nationality and patriotism on all occasions.

Group dances and songs on the theme of patriotism, urging people to be devoted to their motherland, were performed .

Speaking at the event, S. Marimuthu, Senior Inspector, Cooperative Societies and ex-NCC cadet, said that though not everybody would an opportunity to fight for the nation at the border, they should fight for a social cause. “Students should make use of the opportunity given by the college and elevate themselves to serve the nation in any small way they can.

My NCC training in the college gave me confidence and helped me during my stint with Indo-Tibetan Border Police force,” he said.

N. Arun Nagendran, Company Commander, NCC Army wing, urged the students to recall the brave deeds of soldiers and victories they won for the country at Kargil, Drass and Tiger Hills in 1999.

“The day is being celebrated and remembered each year so that the youth can imbibe the spirit of patriotism which was shown by our soldiers,” he said.
