Kalam’s book distributed to students

The Hindu Group, in association with the district administration, distributed ‘En vazhvil Thirukkural’ (Couplets of Thiruvalluvar in my life), a book written by former President APJ Abdul Kalam to class X students to inculcate the habit of reading.

Collector J. Jayakanthan launched the distribution of the books, published by Kasturi & Sons Limited, to the students at a function organised at the Oxford Matriculation Higher Secondary School here on Tuesday coinciding with Mr. Kalam’s 88th birth anniversary.

He said 19,000 copies of the book, a customised edition, exclusively designed and printed for students of the district, would be distributed to class X students in all government and private schools. The district administration and

The Hindu Group have taken the initiative to introduce the book to the students to help them to ‘Read and Rise’ in their lives. He said Mr. Kalam had given his thoughts on 35 couplets which inspired him the most and impacted in his life. He believed that the book would help students lay the path for success and decide their careers.

The Hindu Group’s ‘Young World’ and ‘The Hindu in School, weekend tabloid’ to the students in the district, mooted the idea of distributing Mr. Kalam’s ‘En Vazhvil Thirukkural.’

Suggesting that the book be given free of cost to students of all schools in the district, the Collector roped in the district Mineral Foundation Trust for the sponsorship. The Hindu Group offered the copies at subsidised rate. “The book which deals with entire gamut of life will be an ideal guide to students to shape up their careers,” he said. Students should take a cue from the book to develop their knowledge and wisdom.
