TVS-ITF men’s futures tennis championship begins at YMCA Sports and Games Centre

TVS-ITF men’s futures tennis championship gets under way at the YMCA Sports and Games Centre at Alagappa Nagar here on Saturday.

The event is organised by Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA) and Madurai District Tennis Association (MDTA). It will take place from March 22 to 29.

India’s best players along with a contingent of players from 12 European and Asian countries are taking part in the event.

Prize money for the tournament is $10,000. Karthi Chidambaram, vice-president, TNTA, inaugurated the tournament here on Friday. Speaking on the sidelines of the event, he expressed satisfaction at tennis tournaments being conducted at places such as Madurai and other cities of Tamil Nadu. He wanted tennis fans to come in large numbers and support the players.

R. Haresh, president, MDTA, said the tournament was being conducted in Madurai for the third consecutive year. The event would help more people in this region to take up the sport. Prominent players who will be taking part in the event include Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, Ramkumar Ramanathan and N. Sriram Balaji. There will be no entry fee for the spectators. Qualifiers will be held on Saturday and Sunday while the main draw will begin on Monday.
