Owners of small and tiny industrial units that have been hit by the extended power cut will organise a blood donation camp here on February 23, seeking the early commissioning of Kudankulam nuclear power project. The Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) is organising this blood donation camp and a public meeting.
According to V. S. Manimaran, president of the association, the decision to organise a meeting to call for early commissioning of the nuclear power plant, implementation of uniform power cut and to start more power generation projects was taken at a consultation that was held among 50 associations representing the small industry on Thursday. Participants at the meeting expressed grave concern over the impact of long duration power cut on production. Industrial units were not in a position to execute their orders in time and the livelihood of thousands of workers dependent on tiny and small units was at stake. The meeting also pointed out that the power situation in the State would improve considerably if the Kudankulam plant started production as Tamil Nadu would get 1000 mw of electricity from it.
Mr. Manimaran said in a statement that people from all sections of society, affiliate associations of MADITSSIA and Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association were expected to take part in this.
