Hundreds take part in inter-school quiz

The inter-school quiz competition organised by National Insurance Company (NIC), in association with The Hindu In School, here on Monday saw the enthusiastic participation of more than 400 students from 51 schools, mainly from Madurai and other southern districts.

The competition, which was open to students from Class VIII to Class XII, was organised as a team event with two members in each team. Of the 232 teams that took part in the preliminary round, six teams were chosen for the on-stage finals, which had six interesting rounds that kept the audience hooked. The students who could not make it to the finals were also kept engaged with spot prizes for answering the questions that were missed by the finalists.

V. Sri Siva Murugan and B. Selva Muthu Balaji from Sri Jayendra Golden Jubilee School in Sankar Nagar in Tirunelveli district, who led the score in the finals from the first round, won the competition with a considerable margin.

A. Aadhithya and V. Dhanush Aditya from The Aditya Birla Public School in Reddipalayam in Ariyalur district and G. Anagha and V. Tejasvini from Pushpalata Vidya Mandir in Tirunelveli secured the second and the third positions respectively.

The other teams that made it to the finals were K.P. Aravindhan and D. Aditya Damodhar from Vikaasa School in Madurai, V. Shriram Ananth and M. Aumroopan from Mahatma CBSE (Akkamma building) in Madurai and R. Shyam Sundar and T.G. Ashwin Kumar from Mahatma School in K.K. Nagar in Madurai.

S. Venugopalan, Chief Regional Manager (Madurai), NIC, who distributed prizes to the winners and other finalists, said he was thoroughly impressed by the talent exhibited by the participants. “I am sure you all have a wonderful future,” he told the students.

The winners from Madurai and 10 other cities across the country will take part in the grand finale in Kolkata.
