The Madras High Court Bench here upheld the decision of DGP (chairman), Tamil Nadu Uniform Services Recruitment Board, to reject the application of a candidate for the post of Sub-Inspector.
J. Arunkumar had applied for the SI post in 2010, but suppressed facts pertaining to his involvement in a criminal case. Mr. Arunkumar, while pursuing B.E. in a college here in 2009, was involved in an altercation.
He was booked but was later acquitted, based on benefit of doubt. The incident came to light during police verification. Mr. Arunkumar moved the High Court in 2011, which directed the DGP to consider the application .The DGP filed an appeal challenging the single judge’s order. A division bench said, “Considering the fact that there was a criminal case against him (Arunkumar), we do not find any justifiable ground to accept his plea that on the sole ground of honourable acquittal, he has to be considered for appointment.”
