The Madras High Court Bench here on Tuesday directed the Ramanathapuram district administration to provide treatment at a Government Hospital to all those who sustained injuries following a clash between the police and the participants of ‘Unity March,’ taken out by Popular Front of India (PFI) members on Ramanathapuram-Rameswaram National Highway on Monday.
Passing interim orders on a public interest litigation petition filed by M. Mohamed Abbas, State coordinator of Social Democratic Party of India, a Division Bench of Justice R. Sudhakar and Justice V.M. Velumani also directed the head of the government hospital to file a report in the court by Thursday about the treatment provided to the injured.
The judges said that the report should indicate if there was a necessity to shift any of the injured to a private speciality hospital for further treatment.

Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel, W. Peter Ramesh Kumar, argued that a judicial enquiry by a retired High Court judge should be ordered to find out the genesis of the violent incidents and to order compensation to the injured.
Stating that two lawyers, Kajaa Najumudeen and Alavudeen, practising in the High Court Bench, too had sustained injuries, he sought a direction to the State government to pay them a compensation of Rs.10 lakh.
He also wanted a criminal case to be booked against the police personnel involved in the violence.
