The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has sought a report from the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department after allegations of misappropriation of temple funds were brought to light.

A Division Bench of Justices N. Kirubakaran and S.S. Sundar sought a report on the auditing details of Dhandayuthapaniswami Temple in Palani, Ranganathaswami Temple in Srirangam, Subramaniaswamy Temple in Tiruchendur and Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai.

The court was hearing a public interest litigation petition filed by A. Radhakrishnan of Chennai. He sought a direction to the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department to retrieve temple lands from encroachments. The case was adjourned to April 22 for filing of reports.
