If the State government failed to take up our demands in the next few days, the indefinite stir proposed from September 7 would affect work in all the government-run schools, said members affiliated to the Joint Action Committee of Teachers’ Organisations and Government Employees Organisation (JACTO-GEO) here on Tuesday.

Speaking at a well-attended demonstration here, speakers insisted that the government stop its lame excuses for delaying in the past and without any further adjournments, and should look into the ‘just’ demands of the teachers. Political uncertainties could not come in the way, they underlined.

Joining them, staff from the revenue, rural development, commercial taxes and others warned the government should take the demands seriously. The dilly-dally tricks adopted by it should be stopped forthwith , the striking teachers said, adding that frequent agitations might not be good for the governance.

The charter of demands included dropping of new pension scheme and stick to the old pension scheme. Likewise, the Pay Commission was yet to take its shape for the State government employees.

The officials at the Secretariat informed the delegations that they had to set right the anomalies in the Pay Commission and thus it was just a matter of time to implement. But, till date, there was no sign of the implementation of the Pay Commission recommendations, the members charged.

At least, the government could have released an interim hike to show their bona fides.

Due to the stir, the offices, which usually be bustling with activities, remained deserted as over 80 % of the staff remained absent.
