Gold missing during Azhagar procession

Three women lost their gold chains, weighing 15 sovereigns, when they went to witness the event of Lord Kallazhagar entering the Vaigai on Monday.

Gurudevi (32) of Sankarankoil lost her five sovereign of gold. While Kasiammal of Teppaklam complained that she lost over eight sovereigns of gold, Ilavarasi (22) of Kariyapatti said her 12 gm gold chain was missing.

They lodged complaints with the Mathichiyam police.

Meanwhile, a woman from Sellur lost ten sovereigns of gold chain when she went to offer prayers to Lord Kallazhagar during the procession at Appantirupathi on Saturday.

The police said that Mayilamal (50) of Sellur noticed that her ‘thali’ chain went missing at Okkalikkar Mandapam at around 8.30 p.m. The Appantirupathi police are investigating.

In another case reported in the city, a child lost one sovereign of gold chain at the Mariamman Temple in Armed Reserved ground on Sunday.

The complainant, Palanimmal of VOC Street in Narayanapuram, had been to the Mariamman temple along with her child. She found the gold missing at around 11.45 a.m.

The police have picked up a woman from Thanjavur for questioning on suspicion.
