The Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, K. Ramasamy, has asked professors and other teaching staff to work hard in the field instead of confining themselves to air-conditioned rooms.
“Your salary is paid by society and there are lot of expectations from you. How do you get your salary of over Rs. 1 lakh per month? Learn how to work from seniors who are still engaging themselves in some work or other after retirement,” he said on a tough note.
The VC was speaking at the inaugural of a national conference at the Agricultural College and Research Institute here on Thursday.

“I think agronomists are not teaching scientific methods in cultivation to farmers properly. How many of you have travelled to our university’s research stations? How many of you went to Paramakudi or Aruppukottai to assess the rainfall required, ” he asked.
Stating that education was need-based, Dr. Ramasamy said that gone were the days when agricultural college professors and scientists could dump their technology on farmers. “Visualise their needs and work. Our university has over 1,500 professors and assistant professors. If once in five years you come up with a new technology, imagine what our university can achieve,” he told the teaching staff.
