An international conference organised here ahead of the women’s day has warned that mankind will be at risk if there is gender discrimination.
A strong message was also sent out that women’s quest for equality along with men is a just cause since gender equality is enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
Inviting delegates from various places in the country and abroad, the American College is organising a three-day conference on women empowerment and social sciences to deliberate on issues pertaining to promoting equality of men and women in all spheres of life.

Setting the tone for discussion at the inaugural function on Thursday, Principal M.Davamani Christober said that equality and empowerment must go hand in hand with a vow to end gender discrimination.
“The world is full of he and she. Both cannot be looked at differently since there is a he in every she, man in woman, male in female, lad in lady and mr in mrs. Therefore, let us ensure that men and women get the same treatment, opportunities, privileges and education,” he stressed.
Stating that women empowerment is a burning issue globally, Dr.Christober pointed out that several Acts have been enacted in India to bring about social and economic equality for women.

“To what extent these laws have been effective need to be studied,” he added. Expressing happiness that girl students have been outperforming boys by securing high marks in public examinations, Dr.Christober observed that women’s talent still remains very much under utilised in the country.
“Let us work towards promoting gender sensitivity by changing our attitude and give equal access to women,” he told the delegates.
Earlier, Dr.Lee IL Ho, founder and coordinator, KORIND Misson, Korea, released research journals and a souvenir on conference proceedings presenting the first copy to Dr.J.Sarojini, Dean of Women Students, American College.
