G. Durga Devi, a student of TVS Matriculation Higher Secondary School here, has pulled off a rare feat by scoring 500 out of 500 in Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations, the result of which were published on Friday.
M. Ramesh, Principal of the school, said on Friday that the achievement of the student is a milestone in the history of the school. She had scored full marks in English, Sanskrit, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.
“I was attentive in the classrooms and prepared for my examinations systematically. It helped me to a large extent,” said Ms. Durga Devi.

She said she had no interest in watching television, and that maintained a diary and wrote poems to remain calm and composed. She spent three hours a day at home studying and made sure that she slept adequately at night, Ms. Devi added.
“I also went through the revision and model test papers and made note of the mistakes I had made. I rectified all those mistakes in my final examination,” she added.
Ms. Devi further said she aspired to take Bio-Maths group in Class XI, study MBBS and then write the Civil Services examination.

Her father B. Gandhimathinathan is a librarian at the same school where his daughter was studying and mother G. Bagampriya is a homemaker.
“We expected her to score more than 490. We are so happy that she has scored centum in all the subjects,” Mr. Gandhimathinathan said.
“She was always calm. We did not impose any pressure on her to perform well. That really helped her a lot,” an elated Ms. Bagampriya said.
Mr. Ramesh said the school had a public exam preparation team that identified students with calibre to secure State ranks and provided them special care.
