Fishermen to keep off sea to mark anti-nuke protest

Black flags will be hoisted seeking closure of Kudankulam project: Udayakumar

Fishermen living in 515 hamlets across Tamil Nadu will abstain from venturing into the sea on March 15 demanding the permanent closure of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, convener of the anti-KKNPP struggle committee, S.P. Udayakumar, said that two teams were working overtime to meet the fishermen at their hamlets between Neerodi in Kanyakumari district to Pazhaverkadu in Tiruvallur district to put forward the proposal. The fishermen agreed instantly as they realised that the project would wipe out their livelihood.

Black flags would be hoisted in these protesting coastal hamlets and posters demanding the closure of the KKNPP pasted.
