“There is an urgent need for all of us to come together and fight against forces working against the interests of people of Tamil Nadu,” said Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko here on Tuesday.
Speaking at the ‘Pongal vizha’ celebrations organised by members of Madurai Bar Association on the district court campus, he said that corporate houses, which were bent upon setting up shop in Tamil Nadu under the guise of development, should not be allowed.
“They are coming here as they would benefit from the abundant natural resources,” he cautioned and wanted every youth to wake up and put an end to such destructive forces.

The Centre was not worried about the threats to people here. The methane project and the INO project were just the tip of an iceberg, which threatened the environment, he noted. All political parties should rally together to protect the State, he said.
Already, the State was bogged with issues with its neighbours who were bent upon either constructing check dams or demolishing the existing dam, he said.
During his hour-long speech, Mr. Vaiko also called for preserving the Tamil tradition.

“Let us not forget to celebrate all our traditional festivals like Pongal as failure to do will result in the next generation forgetting Tamil culture,” he cautioned.
Earlier, Mr. Vaiko witnessed ‘silambam,’ cockfight and thappattam organised on the campus. MBA secretary A.K. Ramasamy welcomed the gathering.
