Sharing their grief and expressing their philanthropy, the farmers and public from Peria Thummakundu in Aruppukottai region presented a cheque for ₹18,000 towards Gaja cyclone relief to District Revenue Officer and Collector (in-charge) G. Udayakumar here on Friday.
The monthly farmers grievance redressal meeting was chaired by the DRO where officials from various departments, including Joint Director (Agriculture in-charge) Manisekaran participated.

The officials informed the farmers that they had received ₹eight crore as compensation from the insurance company towards disbursal to 2400 farmers who had lost their paddy crops in 2017-18. Shortly, the sums would be transferred to the respective bank accounts.
To queries from the farmers, the officials clarified that crop insurance for rabi, cotton and corn among others had been covered from the current year. Hence, the farmers can register themselves through the cooperative societies and remit the premium.
The DRO said that all the farmers whether or not they had obtained farm loans shall be eligible for compensation from insurance companies. He urged the farmers to utilise them and for details, they could take assistance from the agriculture department.

The officials informed the farmers that the interested one would be given training in tender coconut (neera) preservation and methods. An exhibition on farm products was organised by the AD (Agriculture Sattur).
