Thanga Murugan was the site engineer of the third mini-power plant at Vettukadu, which was commissioned with private participation. After commissioning turbines, a trial run was conducted in the morning. Thanga Murugan was electrocuted while he was making readings.

This was the second fatal accident in the power plant within a year. Prabhu of Gudalur, a worker, was electrocuted in January 2013, according to power plant workers. The government had sanctioned four mini-power plants at Lower Camp to generate hydel power.

Construction of two mini-power plants at Koovanuthu and Kanchi Madam was over and they started generating power. Each plant has two power turbines, generating two megawatt of power each.
