Elected representatives told to keep tabs on well-being of children

Elected representatives from local bodies have been asked to keep themselves abreast of Integrated Child Development Scheme and make efforts to upgrade the infrastructure of Anganwadi centres for the benefit of children.

Inaugurating a training programme on ICDS here on Saturday, Revenue Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran said the State government was taking various measures for the well-being of the children, pregnant women, adoloscent women and lactating mothers.

The elected representatives should sensisite people about the importance of the right upbringing of their children. They should closely monitor the functioning of ICDS centres in their locality, and ensure that the benefits of the scheme reached the children, he said.

Collector J. Meghanath Reddy, Sivakasi Mayor I. Sangeetha, Virudhunagar Municipal chairman Madhavan, District Project Officer (ICDS) Rajam were among those who were present.
