Kanimozhi lists out issues, projects which evoked public outcry

THOOTHUKUDI

Terming the by-election for four Assembly constituencies a ‘poll for change of power’, DMK Rajya Sahba member and party’s candidate for Thoothukudi Lok Sabha constituency Kanimozhi said both the Narendra Modi-led Central government and the Edappadi K. Palaniswami-led State government would be out of power on May 23.

Campaigning at Muthammal Colony here under Ottapidaram (Reserved) constituency for DMK candidate M.C. Shanmugaiah on Thursday, Ms. Kanimozhi said the by-poll would be the election to trash the Palaniswami-led government in Tamil Nadu, which betrayed the Tamils and sacrificed their welfare.

Mr. Palaniswami was telling that DMK president M.K. Stalin’s desire of becoming the Chief Minister would only be a daydream, but Mr. Stalin would become the Chief Minister after May 23.

“When a person like Mr. Palaniswami, whose only qualification is bending to the maximum possible extent with folded hands, can become an MLA and then the Chief Minister, Mr. Stalin can certainly become the Chief Minister as he enjoys the support of the people. It was because of (late Chief Minister) Jayalalithaa that Mr. Palaniswamy and his deputy (O. Panneerselvam) got an identity. Now, mystery and suspicion shroud her death, which will become clear after the DMK comes to power,” Ms. Kanimozhi said.

She said the people of Thoothukudi district, who were buying a pot of water for ₹ 10 after drinking water supply became erratic, should teach a fitting lesson to the ruling party in the by-poll.

“By miserably failing in a range of issues like the Cauvery water, hydrocarbon projects and NEET, the Edappadi government has smothered the people of the State. Demonetisation and implementation of the GST have seriously affected the lives of several lakhs of people by rendering them jobless. The agonised people will send both the governments packing on May 23,” Ms. Kanimozhi said.
