For the first time, draft electoral rolls with photograph of voters has been released here on Tuesday.
After releasing it, Collector U. Sagayam told reporters that there were 20,36,001 voters — 10,18,838 men and 10,17,163 women — in the district. As many as 3,282 polling stations would be established in the city and rural areas of the district for the local body elections.
The draft rolls would be available with all the local body offices in the district. People could view the list during office hours. For carrying out any changes such as addition or deletion in the list, they could submit the details of amendments in the prescribed forms (6, 7, 8 and 8 A) with the officials. Until the filing of nominations, corrections could be made. In case of any difficulty, they could approach the higher officials for assistance.

Electronic voting machines (EVM) and ballot boxes would be used in the local body polls. More EVMs were coming soon for use in the expanded city limits. The electorate would continue to cast their votes through ballot system in municipalities, town panchayats and village panchayats.
While there was a change in the reservation for Mayoral seat in Madurai, it was status quo in rural areas, including Keeripatti and Pappapatti panchayats.
As for the categorisation of sensitive polling booths and stations, they were being examined from several aspects based on past incidents, Mr. Sagayam said.
