After interrogation, they are all let off, says police official

The police have been interrogating some of the DMK functionaries, including former MLA P. Moorthy, in connection with the murder of the party functionary N. Suresh Babu alias ‘Pottu’ Suresh on January 31, for the last two days.

Police sources said here on Sunday the former Deputy Mayor P.M. Mannan, district deputy secretary Udayakumar, S.R. Gopi, V.K. Gurusamy and some others were also questioned.

The Subramaniapuram police are investigating the case and 10 teams are gathering details related to the murder, police said.

Already, seven accused, who had surrendered in the Natham Judicial Magistrate court, Dindigul district, were interrogated and sent back to prisons in Salem district, for security purposes.

Based on the confessions, the police had tightened the probe, which resulted in two more key suspects surrendering in Salem, a couple of days back.

The interrogation with DMK functionaries had raised eye-brows in the party circle as they are aides of Union Minister M.K. Alagiri.

Even as the police are confident of securing the key suspect ‘Attack’ Pandi, also a DMK functionary, who is allegedly behind Suresh’s murder, the probe with the individual DMK members was more to know whether they had any knowledge about the ‘wanted’ person, a police officer said.

After the interrogation, the functionaries were let off.
